I must admit, when I think shopping mall and food court, I don’t think restaurant. But after being introduced to one of Emporium’s newest resident restaurants, New Shanghai, that perception might need to change. With an extensive menu offering authentic Chinese cuisine and ex-Hutong head chef, Wei Qiang Huang, holding the kitchen ropes, New Shanghai is well worth stopping by for your dose of dumplings.
The Xiao Long Bao (steamed mini pork bun) is a stand out with no awkward ‘stickiness’ or tearing with the case, a fantastic depth of flavour in the soup and soft pork parcels within. Dare I say it’s reminiscent of the Hutong Xiao Long Bao experience.
With Chinese New Year on the 19th of February, it’s great excuse to indulge in some modern Shanghai-style cuisine at New Shanghai (not that you need one). Bookings are available online and New Shanghai is licensed and accepts BYO ($2 corkage).
