What’s more fun than a girls weekend away with your bestie? A girls weekend away with hot cross buns, chocolates and espresso martinis! YES!
This weekend I headed up to Brisbane to visit one of my nearest and dearest who I hardly ever get to see because she lives on the Gold Coast. As two over-achieving workaholics, we’ve both been massively under the pump with work and so decided that a relaxing weekend away firmly needed to be on the agenda.
At the same time, and in small digital-world fashion, I’d been chatting over Twitter with Brisbane CBD-based hotel, Capri by Fraser (I still marvel at this channel for its ability to connect like-minded parties in a simple, conversational way).
When I mentioned I’d be heading north for the weekend, they told me about their Easter special which is available from now until the 16th April; their Easter special which includes overnight accommodation for two, hot cross buns, paleo chocolates from on-site restaurant, Asana by Pete Evans, and a DIY Nespresso martini kit.
This was clearly meant to be.
I arrived at the hotel before said Bestie which allowed me chance to check in, get some more work done…and sample the chocolate first. Paleo chocolate is interesting; dark and mysterious, much like the paleo diet itself, in my personal opinion. Can you really ever trust someone who doesn’t eat carbs? Fortunately, the hot cross buns were full-carb.
We were booked in a stylish twin share Studio Deluxe on the 15th floor and this provided ample space, light and comfort for two with an integrated living space, cosy kitchenette, including microwave – perfect for making buns with crosses hot, Nespresso coffee, excellent WIFI and robes (very important for relaxing weekends).
It passed the girl test quite well; excellent hairdryer, Malin+Goetz toiletries (great quality, beautiful smelling), a make-up mirror in the living space for when the other is in the bathroom, and only slightly challenging lighting for doing hair and make-up – this is a common challenge for hotels, it seems.
I liked the bluetooth sound system and the 48” smart TV and even though our room backed onto the lift shaft, you couldn’t hear a thing from bed; a very soft, comfy bed. The room overlooked an apartment block but it didn't feel as though our privacy was invaded and while I appreciate a balcony in Brisbane, we weren't there long enough to enjoy it.
At only two years old, the hotel still feels very new. Asana on the ground floor acts as the onsite bar and restaurant where guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast as an added extra, with loads of paleo options plus lunch or dinner from an la carte menu filled with gluten free, vegan and dairy free meals. We feasted on a delicious gluten free, paleo pizza for dinner; indulgence.
Capri by Fraser is a good, reliable and contemporary hotel in Brisbane, ideal for a night or weekend away in the CBD.
Throw in some hot cross fun, martinis and chocolates, enjoyed in a robe, and you have yourself a tasty city stay.
