When I think back to Singapore, it’s the beautiful Marina Bay area that my mind is drawn to. There’s shopping on a scale a Melbourne girl can appreciate, with a dining precinct to match. Naturally, basing myself at the luxury Conrad Centennial (put on my radar thanks to Luxury Escapes) made perfect sense on a recent trip away.
Rooms with a view overlook the landmark Fountain of Wealth with a buzz of activity and the Marina Bay area itself, but offer a world of calm from within, with serene contemporary styling and a splash of hotel luxury; pure white linen and Yukata robes (bliss).
With over 500 guest rooms, 25 suites and 96 connecting rooms, staying at the Conrad Centennial offers a range of options, but when all bathrooms are covered with marble and come with a bath, spending time in any of the five-star rooms or suites is a treat. Whether you want time to relax or a space to catch up on work, furnishings with a mid-century signature of natural timbers and subtle colours create comfortable spaces throughout.
Sumptuous king size beds and in-room features, resonant with a hotel of this caliber, include a well-stocked minibar, luxurious toiletries, daily turndown and a welcome fruit plate. But it’s the subtle touches, like unique artworks, a Singapore Orchid in each room, and wonderful people, that really makes a stay at Conrad Centennial special.
A sun-drenched pool deck (and a square pool, ideal for laps) along with a 24 hour fitness centre will help keep over-indulgence in check, and the prestige Executive Lounge - available to all Executive floor and Suite guests - provides an exclusive space for meetings, breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapés and drinks from the upper floors of the hotel.
Gin lovers will rejoice with a daily happy hour in the lovely lobby lounge from 5-7pm offering S$12++ gin and tonics. There's also The Gin Experience: the chance to mix up your perfect gin and tonic choosing from 12 premium gins (like Sipsmith London Dry, Death's Door and Hendricks) with some of the finest craft tonics, and over 30 garnishes, for S$22++ a drink. If that's not enough juniper berry action for you, then hit up the monthly Gin Block Party outside at The Terrace for S$12++ G&T's from 5pm to 1am plus a feast of famous satays and skewers. Get in early - first in, best ginned.
Now, just because you are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants and cafes in the area (over 300 in the Marina Bay area!), don’t overlook Conrad’s signature dim-sum at the award winning Golden Peony or the famous Seafood Sunday Brunch at Oscar’s.
For flights that don't sync nicely with hotel check in and departure times, there's an early arrival and late departure lounge and if you do have have spare or leisure time up your sleeve, check out the 1/3/5 experiences created by travel writer, Peter Jon Lindberg. These are one, three and five hour tours and activities that give you the chance to really experience Singapore's art, culture, attractions, food - and shopping!
The other forward-thinking feature worth mentioning is the Hilton Honours App which gives you app-based and secure access to your hotel room. It also makes ordering food a breeze with in-room dining options (bye-bye cold Uber Eats) and contains all the important or interesting information you might need to know about the hotel – literally at your fingertips. Next time, I’ll also be choosing my own pillow from the 15 firmness options on the custom pillow menu because I completely overlooked that on this stay! Rookie mistake...
As you can see, with so much going on at the Conrad, you may never need to leave - or at least, you won't want to. For what is already a beautiful, calming and elegant stay at the Conrad Centennial is only going to get better with a stylish, contemporary update on its way between now and early 2018.
